Kawleeya II - Context, Technique and Choreo
Building on the first block, we’ll consolidate our Kawleeya style movement repertoire, learn new techniques, and put it all together into a choreography with optional future performance opportunities. For those who missed Block 1, the fundamentals will be revised to get you up to speed.
Week 1: Dive into Iraqi dance history and culture in this virtual discussion, with a specific focus on the Kawleeya people. Learn all about clothing, music, rhythms and more. This Zoom class is essential for a full understanding of the dance and its context.
Weeks 2-5 are practical dance sessions in the studio, focussing on technique and choreography.
Women only, private space. Hijabi women welcome.
Price: Earlybird $135 per person (before midday on Saturday 21 Feb) / $150 full price if spaces remain. (Discount will be applied automatically at the checkout.)
Important Notes:
This course contains moves that are not suitable for dancers with neck injuries.
No catch-up lessons or recordings are available, and no credits will be issued for non-attendance. Please only book if you can actually attend - we don’t want you to miss a thing!
Our instructor, Andrea, brings years of deep, hands-on experience, having studied directly with world-renowned master teachers through many hours of private lessons. She’s also a familiar and beloved performer in Sydney’s Iraqi community, known for her authentic style. As a teacher, Andrea is encouraging and experienced.
